Cblindspot joins the Open IP Council
Neutral measurement is only as good as the standards behind it. Cblindspot is taking part in the industry effort to define benchmarks for patent AI platforms.
Getting involved in IP standardisation is part of the neutral DNA of Cblindspot. Connect, orchestrate and measure cannot be reliable without standards that align vision and comparison.
The Open IP Council held its first working session on 25 June 2026, convened by Roger Hahn, with prosecutors, in-house counsel, an engineer from a telecommunications standards background, vendors and a patent-portfolio valuation specialist around the table. The initiative is open to anyone working in or around patent practice.
Three issues framed that first session, and all three are measurement problems before they are technology problems. Liability, because no standard yet classifies an AI system in a way a professional liability carrier can price. Security, because when a guardrail fails nobody can currently prove it held. And return, because the drafting time an AI system saves is counted while the human review time needed to catch its errors is not.
A benchmark changes the position a practice argues from. It lets a firm show it followed a published standard rather than answer a charge of recklessness after the fact, which is what makes it matter to an insurer, to a client that wants real security, and to the partner who wants proof the technology delivers.
That is the same premise Cblindspot is built on, and the same one behind IPMSBench, the open IPMS benchmark being co-developed with PSS Solutions. Measurement is only neutral if the yardstick is public.
